What I can help with
‘We don't receive wisdom. We must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.’
Marcel Proust
Addiction and Alcoholism
I work with individuals recovering from alcoholism or addiction to drugs (recreational or prescribed). I can assist with referrals and have a substantial knowledge of, and links with, agencies both in the UK, and abroad.

If you have completed a treatment programme, I can support you in the early stages of your recovery. I am able to work alongside and beyond an aftercare programme you may be engaged with, and can complement this to help you consolidate the foundations of your recovery whilst you continue to acclimatise to sober living.
If you have been in recovery a while, I can help you move forward in the areas of your life that you may not have addressed until now.
If you have struggled and relapsed, I may be able to help you find your way back through the confusion and distress of a slip. I can help you to look at the reasons behind your relapse, and support you to address the consequences.
If you are struggling with difficulties in your recovery relating to your physical or mental health, self harm or food disorders, I may be able to help you, either independently, or in conjunction with other professionals. I regularly work with psychiatrists, physicians, and nutritionists, and can refer you to their care if appropriate.
Eating Disorders
Having undertaken various specialist trainings I have a range of tools at my disposal to enable me to formulate interventions in response to the particular problem you, or someone you care about, may be experiencing.

If you are currently experiencing difficulties in your relationship with food, if you struggle with issues concerning your weight, shape or body image, I may be able to help. Whether you have encountered these difficulties in addition to other addictive behaviours, or independently, I may be able to help.
I have significant expertise of working with adults and adolescents who struggle as a result of their eating patterns and behaviours around food.
I work with women who have been diagnosed with an eating disorder as well s those who have identified themselves as having trouble with their eating or a preoccupation with their shape and/or weight.
I have extensive experience of working with individuals who restrict their food intake, who diet aggressively, or exercise to compensate as well as women who suppress their appetite, abuse laxatives, or cause themselves to vomit. I have a particular interest in emotional eating and have worked with many clients who eat more than they would like to.
Family Members
My approach is founded on the premise that you don’t have to be an addict to suffer the effects of addiction. Addiction and eating disorders affect not only the sufferer, but those around them and I often work with parents, children, partners and siblings.

Family members and friends can experience significant levels of distress both during the course of an addiction or eating disorder, which may have progressed to a crisis point before recovery is sought. Those around the individual recovering from alcoholism, addiction or an eating disorder can also benefit from counselling, whilst their loved one is in treatment and beyond.
The nature of addictions and eating disorders can cause a relationship or family to stagnate, and get ‘stuck’ in dynamics which may no longer work once an individual discovers recovery.
Addictions and eating disorders can rob individuals, couples and families of their communication skills and relationships can feel empty and lacking in intimacy as a result. A family may feel lost once the addiction or eating disorder is stabilised.
I work with individuals, as well as with couples and families and offer support to family members alongside, or independent of, their loved ones.
